Replace a toner cartridge

When toner runs out, the control panel tells you which cartridge to replace and usually shows an animation of each step. Follow the screen; these steps give you the general idea.

Steps

1. Wait for the message that says which toner color to replace.
2. Open the toner cover shown on the screen.
3. Pull out the empty cartridge. On some models you turn or unlock it first; the animation shows how.
4. Take the new cartridge out of its packaging. Shake it gently if the packaging or screen says to, and remove any tape or seal as shown.
5. Slide the new cartridge in until it stops, then close the cover.

Tips

• Don’t touch the cartridge opening, and keep it away from your clothes. Toner stains.
• Use genuine Canon toner for the best print quality and reliability.
